Day 1: Arrival in Leh – Breathe in the Himalayas
Your scenic discovery begins as you arrive in Leh, nestled in the lap of the Ladakh Himalayas. You’ll be welcomed and transferred to your hotel for acclimatization to the high altitude (approx. 3,500 m). Rest and relax throughout the day. In the evening, take a short walk to explore Leh’s local market and taste some traditional Ladakhi cuisine. Overnight stay in Leh.
Day 2: Leh Sightseeing – Culture and Spirituality
After breakfast, visit some of the region’s most iconic monasteries. Start with Hemis Monastery, Ladakh’s largest monastic complex, followed by the hilltop Thiksey Monastery, known for its giant Maitreya Buddha statue. Then proceed to Shey Palace, the former summer capital of Ladakh. End your day with views from the Shanti Stupa at sunset. Overnight stay in Leh.
Day 3: Leh to Nubra Valley – Over the Mighty Khardung La
Today, you’ll cross one of the highest motorable passes in the world – Khardung La (5,359 m) – en route to Nubra Valley. Enjoy dramatic views of the mountains as you descend into the green, wide landscapes of Nubra. Visit the charming Diskit Monastery and explore the white-sand dunes of Hunder, where you may also take a ride on a double-humped Bactrian camel. Overnight stay in Nubra Valley.
Day 4: Nubra Valley Exploration – Turtuk or Sumur
After breakfast, enjoy an optional excursion to Turtuk – a remote Balti village near the Indo-Pak border that offers a glimpse into a unique culture. Alternatively, explore Sumur village and the peaceful Samstanling Monastery. Return to your camp or hotel in Nubra for a relaxed evening. Overnight stay in Nubra Valley.
Day 5: Nubra to Pangong Lake – Scenic Mountain Route
Post breakfast, drive to Pangong Lake via the lesser-known yet stunning Shyok route. On arrival, be mesmerized by the dazzling blue waters of Pangong Tso (4,350 m), stretching across the Indo-China border. Walk along the lake shore and capture the beauty in your lens. Overnight stay in camps beside the lake.
Day 6: Pangong Lake to Leh – Over Chang La Pass
Wake up early to enjoy a magical sunrise over Pangong. After breakfast, begin your journey back to Leh, crossing the challenging Chang La Pass (5,360 m). En route, you may visit the famous Druk White Lotus School (featured in 3 Idiots) and Thiksey Monastery if missed earlier. Arrive in Leh by evening. Overnight stay in Leh.
Day 7: Leh to Tso Moriri Lake – Off the Beaten Track
After an early breakfast, drive toward the pristine Tso Moriri Lake (4,522 m), situated in the Changthang region. Pass through picturesque landscapes and villages like Mahe and Chumathang with its natural hot springs. On arrival, witness the still blue lake against barren hills. Explore Korzok Monastery nearby and observe the nomadic lifestyle. Overnight stay at lakeside camps.
Day 8: Tso Moriri to Leh – Back Through the Mountains
Enjoy a quiet morning by the lake and then begin your return journey to Leh. The drive back offers more stunning mountain vistas and opportunities to photograph remote Ladakhi settlements. Arrive in Leh by late afternoon. Spend your last evening shopping for souvenirs or simply relaxing at a café. Overnight stay in Leh.
Day 9: Departure from Leh – Journey Ends, Memories Remain
After breakfast, check out and transfer to Leh Airport for your onward journey. Leave with unforgettable memories of Ladakh’s high passes, sacred monasteries, and surreal landscapes etched in your heart.
